Canning Town Housing PFI scheme wins national excellence award

6 June 2007

Regenter London City East Partnership (LCEP) working in association with Newham Council has won top honours for Best Local Government Operational Project at the PFI industry’s night of nights - the Public Private Finance Awards 2007.

This prestigious award was achieved for the £62 million Canning Town Housing PFI scheme, in the London Borough of Newham, which involves refurbishing and maintaining 1,000 local authority and 200 leaseholder homes to the Decent Homes Standard and beyond.  The award was presented at a gala dinner held at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London.

Sir Robin Wales, Mayor of Newham, said: “The Canning Town PFI project is part of Newham’s housing strategy to bring every council dwelling in Newham up to the Decent Homes Standard by 2010 and make Canning Town a more attractive place in which to live.  Thanks to Regenter LCEP, and their partners, Newham is well on its way to achieving these goals – and I’m delighted that their excellent work has received national praise.”

Jim Saunders, Regenter’s General Manager, said: “This is an outstanding achievement and one for which the whole team is very proud.  This award recognises that when public and private sector organisations work together, far-reaching benefits can be achieved for local communities. We have involved the local residents throughout the project, and this has been a major factor in its success”.

Equipe is carrying out the initial refurbishment and is also responsible for on-going lifecycle, planned and responsive maintenance.  As Neighbourhood Manager, Pinnacle is responsible for housing management, estate services and customer services for the full 30 year contract duration.
